Taking Turns

  1. Let others play while you wait.
    One boy bats while two others stand by the wall.
    The two boys are waiting while the other boy has a turn at bat.

     

  2. Think to yourself, “If I wait, then I will get a turn.”
While one boy swings the bat, the other two think, "If I wait, I'll get a turn." Instead of waiting, the two boys think, "I can't wait," and try to take the bat from the batter. The batter thinks, "I'm so mad!"

Right Way

The boys think that if they wait they will get a turn.

Wrong Way

The boys don't wait, no one gets a turn, and everyone gets mad.

 

  1. When you wait, others will feel happy and want to give you a turn.
The batter thinks, "I'm happy to give him a turn," and says to the next boy in line, "Here. It's your turn." He says, "Thanks." The batter says to the two boys pulling on his bat, "I'm not giving you guys a turn because you didn't wait." Both other boys think, "I am mad."

Right Way

The boy waited so he got his turn.

Wrong Way

The boys did not wait so they will not get a turn.

 

  1. Now the other boy gets a turn to play while the boys wait.
The second boy bats while the others stand by the wall.
The two boys are waiting while the other boy has a turn at bat.

 

  1. Think to yourself, “If I wait, then I will get a turn.”

They shake hands at the end of the game because they are friends.
